Plasman donates to Ready, Set, Go Growing Gardeners Program

Recently, Plasman MVP ambassadors from Corporate and Windsor Tooling made a monetary donation to Ready, Set, Go – Birth to Six Parental Support in Windsor. This monetary donation will help support their Growing Gardeners program.

Ready,Set,Go, established in 1996, forms a partnership with families of young children (ages birth to six). They assist families in overcoming obstacles such as hardships associated with being newcomers to Canada, poverty, neglect, social isolation, poor health, and inadequate nutrition.

Growing Gardeners is a free 4-week program which provides students with opportunities to explore and engage in the art of gardening while incorporating various aspects of the kindergarten curriculum: nutrition, math, science, language, and literacy – to name a few.

The program is up to an hour long (depending on the needs of the class) and occurs once per week for four weeks. The session begins with a book or video about gardening, healthy eating, or planting seeds. Children rotate through four stations beginning with planting the seed of the week, creative activities, experiments, and the use of scientific equipment like microscopes and magnifying glasses. A healthy snack, books, and pictures are used to prompt gardening conversations to round out the Growing Gardeners experience.

Teachers are encouraged to carry on the process upon the completion of the program to continue strengthening core learning outcomes.

“Growing Gardeners is such a valuable experience for the children, teachers, and facilitators—everyone involved,” said Alli Slavik, Community Engagement and Family Support Coordinator, Ready, Set, Go. “Children have many opportunities to build their knowledge about plants and gardening while simultaneously strengthening their independence, self-esteem, and well-being. For over 10 years, we have worked with elementary schools to facilitate this program, and the enjoyment and excitement children express are not unnoticed. We are beyond grateful for Plasman’s collaboration and the success their donation will provide.”
