Supporting Up About Down: Enhancing Lives and Building Community

Plasman is proud to announce our recent donation to Up About Down (UAD), a dedicated non-profit organization committed to enhancing the quality of life and promoting the potential of individuals with Down Syndrome. We believe in fostering an inclusive society where everyone has the opportunity to thrive, and Up About Down’s impactful work directly aligns with Plasman’s values.

Our contribution has been specifically allocated to support two of UAD’s vital programs: The Baby Welcome Package and their Reading Program.

UAD BABY WELCOME PACKAGE

New parents of children with Down Syndrome have to navigate a whole new world of services and emotions. Each family is unique, and it may take a short or long time to appreciate the amazing gift they have received to welcome a baby with Down Syndrome. The UAD Baby Package and support system offers parents information and connections to community resources to ensure their child’s optimal health and development, as well as direct family/peer support from other parents for advice, mentorship, and lifelong friendships

Impact: Our donation helps ensure that new parents feel supported, informed, and connected from day one, fostering a strong foundation for their child’s future.

UAD READING PROGRAM

The Up About Down Reading Program offers a program that meets the needs and learning style for each individual child that is not available in a school setting. Reading is so important for everyone. Whether that is reading a book for enjoyment, being able to interpret and take comfort in the world around them, or being able to read restaurant signs/menus, street signs or their daily calendar. Reading opens up a whole new world for individuals.

Impact: The funds will help provide necessary materials, technology, and specialized instruction to empower the children with the literacy skills needed to navigate the world and pursue their goals.

“We are honoured to partner with Up About Down,” said Sean Borrowman, VP Human Resources, North America, Plasman. “Their dedication to providing lifelong support, education, and community is truly inspiring. By supporting the Baby Welcome Package and Reading Program, we hope to contribute meaningfully to the lives of individuals with Down Syndrome and their families, fostering a more inclusive and supportive community for all.”

Plasman looks forward to following the progress of these programs and continuing our commitment to organizations that are making a real, positive difference.

“UAD wishes to thank our donors, Plasman, for their generous support and contributions in funding the rebranding of our UAD Baby Package,” said Suzanne Cyr, President, Up About Down. “Secondly, our UAD Reading Program is completing another successful session to help children learn to read and enjoy communicating better, thanks again to the donation of funds from Plasman. With grateful hearts, we send a huge thank you from everyone at The Windsor-Essex Down Syndrome Association.”
