Recently, Plasman Fort Payne Manufacturing and Global Headquarters MVP Corporate Giving Ambassadors made a monetary donation to The Arc of DeKalb County in Fort Payne, Alabama.
The Arc is a non-profit organization whose primary role is to advocate for the rights and protections of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) and their families. They strive to provide organized, meaningful habilitative training through residential, community, and day program services. This non-profit organization was conceptualized when one DeKalb County family recognized the need for disability supports and services in the area. In the 1980s, they began providing Adult Day Program Services and in 1997, Residential Services became available. In addition, they currently provide Day Habilitation, Pre-Vocational Training, and countless recreational, volunteer, and community activities.
This donation will be used to enhance the comfort, accessibility, and therapeutic environment of The Arc by replacing worn-out furniture with new, accessible tables and chairs that better accommodate the needs of their participants. It will support their Sensory Room transformation that will be update their current relaxation room into a fully-equipped sensory room – a calming therapeutic space designed to support individuals with sensory processing needs. This will include soft lighting, tactile features, soothing sounds, and other sensory friendly elements to promote relaxation, self-regulation, and overall well-being.
“Thank you once again for your generous commitment to support The Arc of DeKalb County,” said Ali Rogers, Executive Director, The Arc of DeKalb County. “We are deeply grateful for your partnership and excited to share how your contribution will be put to meaningful use.”
The DeKalb Community Leadership Program
Earlier this year the Fort Payne Manufacturing donated $2,500 to support the Leadership DeKalb Program Gala The gala was hosted in support of their Alumni Association. The association is responsible for past and future class project upkeep, as well as raising funds and awarding three high school senior scholarships to students in their county.
The Leadership DeKalb Program accepts nominations and applications for candidates to participate in their 10-month leadership development program. The program consists of opening and closing overnight retreats, eight monthly daylong sessions, and a small-group project.
During the program, class members view DeKalb County from many angles, learn about the issues facing the region, and discover the impact they can have as well-informed leaders. Members of the class take part in shared experiences, events, socials, community engaged projects, strengths-based coaching, and individual learning opportunities.
