Our History

Plasman, originally Plasman Group, has supplied OEMs, contract manufacturers and distributors with automotive
components since 1978.

We have continued to build upon our product capabilities for over 40 years in order to provide the best value to our customers through innovative processes and world-class manufacturing around the world.

Established 1978

Founded in 1978 as Build-A-Mold, we opened as a two-person mold shop in Windsor, Canada, with the singular goal of bringing the highest quality parts to customers.

1993  ––

Plasman gains its first paint capabilities with its acquisition of Trimplas.

 

1998  ––

Plasman corporate entity is formed; awarded first Tier I work with General Motors and named Supplier of the Year.

 

2000  ––

Schroeder acquires Plasman.

 

2009  ––

Bock acquires Plasman; awarded first program for Toyota and GM Supplier of the Year.

 

2011  ––

Insight acquires Plasman; awarded initial work with Fiat Chrysler on Dodge Viper.

 

 

2015  ––

Builds a new state-of-the-art chrome plate line at A-Brite Plating, giving Plasman three chrome plating lines.

Plasman acquires Thermotech Inc., based in Hopkins, MN, USA. Thermotech operated three plants in Mexico, thereby giving Plasman a footprint in the fastest growing auto sector in North America.

 

2017  ––

Expands footprint in Mexico, launching a new 300,000 sq. ft. facility in Querétaro with a state-of-the-art fully robotic paint line.

 

 

2019  ––

Plasman awarded serial production for PVD (now called Omniluxe™); named General Motors Supplier of the Year.

Launches one-of-a-kind PVD production facility in Gothenburg, SE.

 

 

2021  ––

Plasman acquires tier-one automotive BMW supplier Minghua USA, Inc. This acquisition will also add Volvo and Volkswagen products to their North American portfolio.

MiddleGround Capital acquires Plasman.

 

2023  ––

Plasman increases its focus on providing world-class exterior
trim products; sells Precision Mold division locations in the
USA and Mexico.

Plasman begins to vertically integrate by building Windsor Plant 1 for injection molding; constructs paint line in Tecumseh, Ont., CA.

Awarded General Motors Supplier of the Year.

Plasman starts Tier I work with Honda; a new paint line is constructed in Tilbury, Ont., CA.

 

–– 2010 

Plasman breaks ground in Alabama, USA; constructs a new mold and paint line facility.

Awarded General Motors Supplier of the Year for the second consecutive year.

Opens new Engineering Tech Center in Windsor, Ont., CA.

Plasman acquires A-Brite Plating in Cleveland, OH, USA, adding chrome plate on plastic to its capabilities.

Opens Plant 3 in Lasalle, Ont., CA; opens new Sales & Engineering office in Troy, MI, USA.

Plasman acquires Plastal, based in Gothenburg, SE. This acquisition positions Plasman on two continents and diversifies its content with full fascias while increasing its geographic reach.

Querétaro, MX, facility begins serial production; awarded a Tier 1 program with BMW in Europe.

Launches a new prime paint line in Simrishamn, SE; acquires ARWI and PVD Technology.

Rebrands as Plasman and merges divisions to become one global company. As One Driving Force™, we’ve strengthened our global footprint with a focus and commitment to our customers while developing new, improved strategies to enrich our business.

 

–– 2022

Plasman acquires tier-one automotive company Dura Automotive – Exterior Trim Division. This acquisition expands their global operations to 21 manufacturing locations and adds Ford, Mercedes Benz, and Audi to Plasman’s customer list.

Plasman acquires tier-one automotive BMW supplier Minghua USA, Inc. in Greer, South Carolina, USA. This is the fourth acquisition by Plasman since 2015 that expands their global operations to 16 manufacturing sites worldwide. This acquisition will also add Volvo and Volkswagen products to their North American portfolio.
